Understand chit funds in 3 steps
Before you put a single rupee anywhere, we believe you should understand exactly how it works, what the law says, and why registration matters.
How a Chit Fund Works
One group, one pool, monthly auctions — see how everyone saves and borrows from the same scheme.
Learn how it works → 2Always Go Registered
Registered vs non-registered chit funds — why the law only protects you in one of them.
See the difference → 3Why a Registered Fund = Why RMC
The benefits the Chit Fund Act guarantees you — and how RMC delivers every one of them.
Why RMC →
One pool. Everyone benefits.
A chit fund is a savings-and-borrowing scheme: a group agrees to contribute a fixed amount every month for a fixed period, and each month one member takes home the pooled amount.
- Contribute — every subscriber deposits a fixed amount into the common pool each month.
- Auction — whoever is willing to accept the lowest payout (the highest discount) wins that month’s pool.
- Dividend — the discount is distributed back to all members, reducing everyone’s next installment.
- Everyone wins once — over the full cycle, every member receives the pool exactly once.
Always go with a Registered Chit Fund
The single most important rule of chit funds: the Chit Funds Act, 1982 protects you only when the chit is registered and sanctioned by the Registrar of Chits.
✅ Registered Chit Fund
Regulated by the Registrar of Chits appointed by the State Government, under The Chit Funds Act, 1982 and the rules framed under it.
- Every chit group needs prior Government sanction before it starts
- Foreman deposits security with the Registrar — your money is backed
- Chit agreement is filed and legally enforceable
- Disputes resolved through the Registrar under the Act
⚠️ Non-Registered Chit Fund
Informal committees run among friends, family or colleagues — with no legal safety net when something goes wrong.
- No governing body, no oversight
- No security deposits — if the organiser runs, money is gone
- No enforceable agreement
- Banned by the Government
